One more step

Today the Serbian parliament ratified the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union. This was made possible mainly because of the capturing of Radovan Karadzic at the end of July and the active stance of the newly elected government towards the EU. The vote was preceded by a turmoil in the Radical Party – a main opponent of both EU accession and Kosovo independence. Its leader, Tomislav Nikolic, resigned after saying that his party will support the SAA ratification.
It seems that even parts of the Radical Party are getting more practical. And despite the fact that the game of “I give you this, you give me that” between Serbia and the EU will probably continue, it is a much better alternative than dashing all EU hopes because of Kosovo. In the end, the European Union might turn out to be not the problem, but the solution…
